IF MUSIC BE THE FOOD OF LOVE, PLAY ON

Athens Philharmonia Orchestra

The influence of Shakespeare upon many generations of musicians is evidenced in the words of young Hector Berlioz, whithin whom the great bard has caused no less than “a revolution”. Indeed, French Romanticism regards Shakespeare as a free spirit, a creator rebellious to the academic norms and the moral stereotypes of his time. His inexhaustible verve has inspired an impressive variety of compositions, such as symphonic works, operas, art songs, and theatre music. Athens Philharmonia Orchestra, under the baton of Byron Fidetzis, features soprano Christina Poulitsi in a selection of masterpieces that owe their existence to the Shakespearean plays.
